The very overgrown NW barrow, set apart from the others. The long ridge beyond is Devoran Common/Botrea, where there is a linear group of rare (for this area) platform or disc barrows, a couple of which can just be seen as low bumps on the skyline.
The top of the cleared southwestern barrow, looking towards Boswens Croft on the left and Deveral Common (with a linear barrow cemetery) on the right. Wheal Buller standing stone is in the valley between the two hills.
Between Carn Kenidjack and the holed stones we came across this line of three conspicuously pointy stones. They may be connected with the scant remains of a settlement and field system near here, or they may not.
Overgrown in midsummer, these barrows are still worth a quick visit on a walk between Tregeseal stone circle and Tregeseal holed stones. Three stand prominently next to the path – the SW is larger and has some remains of a kerb, the middle one is the best preserved, with visible capstones covering a chamber or cist of some sort. The NE barrow of the three is badly damaged, with a large excavation crater in the centre and no obvious megaliths (it is very overgrown in the summer though).
I found these barrows while walking back from Tregeseal circle in the pouring rain. I had seen them marked on the map but that doesn’t mean you’ll find them so this was a bonus. I found 4 distinct barrows of varying sizes all to the north of the stone circle and east of the holed stones. To the north of this site across the road are Chun Quoit and castle and Boswens Menhir.
