Image of Shapley Common (Platform Cairn) by GLADMAN

Looking back up to Shapley Tor. Note that there is a further cairn, marked upon the current 1:25K OS map just beyond the near left hand horizon. The massive King’s Barrow crowns the skyline left background.

The monument is more-or-less reclaimed by the moor... however the form is pretty clear upon reflection. My trekking poles indicate the perceived extremities.

Looking approx north from Shapley Tor, the platform cairn is located, more or less centrally, upon the far extremity of the broad ridge. (There are also hut circles a little further north again which I did not have daylight to see). In retrospect I sussed that this is NOT the cairn depicted upon the 1:25k OS map, that being what I thought looked very much like one upon the right hand (eastern) edge! Visit both and get the pictures I neglected to take :-)
