As the cloud drifts over Moel Ysgyfarnogod.
The monument from the south, almost looking like a conventional circle from this angle.
The small kerbed cairn with cist inside the circle on the left, with the larger stones of the SW arc on the right.
Stones in the NE ‘arc’. It’s really difficult to tell what’s going on here, the stones on the left appear to be the arc of the circle, the stones on the right are aligned on a completely different arc, inside the perimeter of the circle. A very confusing site.
Surviving stones in the SW arc, looking towards Rhinog Fawr.
To the SW of the main arc, and apparently parallel with it, is this arc of much smaller stones.
The northern Rhinogydd glower beyond. As they tend to do, it must be said......
A little similar to a pic already here but this one’s a bit clearer.(no offence, you de man)
From the path to/from Bryn Cader Faner
There is a small cairn circle to the left – shown in more detail in the next image.
Small cairn circle
The circle is on the way to Bryn Cader Faner. The sun was low as I made the walk in the evening light. This generally made for good photos, but unfortunately the circle was shaded by the hill....
The lake that gives the circle its name
Aubrey Burl says only this about Llyn Eiddew Bach...... The ‘Little ivy lake” is an incomplete ring of seven stones one fallen, with a diameter of 42 feet. Originally thirteen of fourteen stones the tallest two and a half feet tall.....
On the ground it’s a little more than that, one can just make out a circular form to it but on the northern side there are a lot of small pointy stones, reminiscent of those hillfort defences I saw at Pen y Gaer themodernantiquarian.com/site/8406/penygaer.html
On the western side of the circle is a small ring cairn with hollowed out interior, all in all a strange little site, a ring inside a ring that frankly looks a bit of a mess .
This circle can be seen on your right as you walk to Bryn Cader Faner. There are only a few very low stones remaining.
