Posted to show the relationship between the two slabs and Dod Law West hillfort. The slab in the foreground is near the edge of the golfcourse, the slab with fainter cup and rings is top right, the hillfort rampart is on the skyline.

The slab further from Dod Law West hillfort and nearer the gold course.
Eroded cup and rings on the slab nearest to the hillfort.
This slab is nearer to Dod Law West hillfort than the one shown in most of the pictures on TMA. The cup and ring marks are quite faint.
Possible sname above the carvings.
Ring of fire...
Dripping water on the carvings and letting nature take it’s course really seems to highlight the markings... Nice!
27-4-03. View to the north, to the clubhouse!

An update of my October 2001 pic. I went to have a look at the rock art after some very wet weather and bumped into the great Stan Beckinshall. He was up there doing research for and internet project Durham University are doing with him. I was extra lucky in that Stan had just finished cleaning the outcrop so I got an excellent view of what would have been overgrown the previous day.
Stan is the green clad leg on the very top left of the pic LOL

I used to play golf up on this windy hill as a kid, I remember seeing the markings, but didn’t make the connection until a couple of years ago.
One of my favourite views looking over the Milfield Plain and too the Cheviots
We liked it here, the missus and me...
Hob brought us up here one sunny(ish) afternoon. Last Friday in fact! Seems like ages ago!
A short walk through the golfcourse in Wooler stand several of these magnificent stones, carved with magical motifs. This particular one being within the ramparts of the hillfort.
Dripping water into the shapes and letting it run naturally into the grooves (giving it a gentle rub to spread it to the edges) really highlights the shapes.
The sun came out at just the right moment to take a few pics of the “ring of fire”... the water looked like molten metal for a couple fo minutes – fab!
We were happy here... I forgot for a while that I was on a golf course – wonder how many of these golfers know what they’re walking among? Better than whacking a ball with a stick, I reckon!
Noticed last week, that the Shepherd’s Cottage, just below the fort and decorated outcrops, is for sale. Bearing in mind that it has no vehicle access, there’s a chance that it will be let out as a holiday place, and would make such a perfect setting for a tour of North Northumberland.
It looks a bit odd seeing a ‘For Sale’ sign on an IA hillfort. It really does look as if someone is flogging the fort, but it’s not included in the deal, nor is the rock art.
