Sharp Tor can be seen beyond... well worth a clamber since it is an excellent viewpoint.

I hadn’t done my homework – properly, anyway – so impressed by the sheer size of these cairns.

Looking down on the denuded remains of the southeastern cairn from the central, Sharp Tor rising ahead. Dartmoor fills the horizon.

Looking down on the northwestern cairn from the central. The views stretch away beyond Kilmar Tor to Brown Willy and Leskernick.

The central cairn is the most intact of the three, around 2m in height.

The centre of the northwestern cairn, showing some big pieces of granite. Nothing obviously structural though.

Small cairn downhill and to the NNW of the summit trio. Strangely not mentioned on the HER, but nothing to suggest it’s modern (not in a place where a marker cairn would be useful and doesn’t have the look of clearance).

Langstone Downs and Sharp Tor

Every girl’s crazy ‘bout a Sharp-Profiled-Tor. Yeah, right.

Langstone Downs Cairns

24/09/2012 – After visiting the north side of Bodmin Moor in the morning I probably should have had a lie down in a darkened room but instead we chanced me passing out with excitement by going to the Hurlers on the south side. Had intended to just go to the circles and then on to Stowe’s Hill to look at the Cheesewring (both amazing) but we just kept walking north to Longstone Downs. Three nice cairns sit on top. If you visit and have time, carry on to Kilmar Tor. The top is as good as it gets. Walked back along the dismantled tramway east of Stowe’s Hill.

Langstone Downs Cairns

Three large cairns sit on Langstone Downs. Apart from a few uprights in place in and around the eastern cairn they appear to be just three large piles of stones. The ‘hill’ itself is overshadowed by Sharptor to the east, one of Bodmin Moors finest summits.
The Langstone, that gives the hill its name, is conspicuous by its absence...unless you know better?
