Looking towards the western Black Mountains. Be-cairned Pen Cerrig-calch can be seen on the left skyline, Pen y Gadair Fawr and Waun Fach over to the right.

Note the monument’s positionning, denying a quite exquisite view of the Herefordshire plains available 100 yards to the east....

The disturbed centre of the cairn. Suffice to say if the Longtown Stone Circle, reputed to be beyond, does exist.... I couldn’t find it in the heather.

Looking across the disturbed top of the cairn to the summit of Hatterrall Hill. Note the interesting stone within..... the plains of Herefordshire lie below to the left, the view somewhat obscured by the idiosyncratic Bronze Age placement.

The Mam C gives some scale to what remains of this funerary cairn........ little does she know the chocolate’s in my rucksack, not hers (for its safety, you understand).

Round Cairn

I make this denuded monument to be fractionally across the English border... although, to be honest, lines upon maps mean nothing up here. The Offa’s Dyke Long Distance Path runs right past the western flank.

Nevertheless, Coflein have the cairn recorded as:

‘A centrally disturbed cairn, 14m by 12m and 1.4m high. (source Os495card; SO22NE13)J.Wiles 03.09.02‘
