A side ways look at the stone.
A side ways look at the stone.
The last site of the day, the last up and downs of the day.
Looking south east.
Looking north.
Looking west, a very calm Atlantic.
Old news, but good news. The stone looked perfectly happy when I visited.
Barlea Standing Stone would be the last site of a long walking day. It was very kind of the archaeologists to re-erect the stone in 2015, obviously expecting a visit from one of the TMA’ers.
From the remnants at Glencreggan I headed back down to the A83 to continue walking south until the track to Barlea fram. Keep going past the farm until a walkers track which heads north west, downhill and straight to the stone.
It stands at nearly 2m tall being 1.2m wide. Looking north west the south of Gigha can be seen, looking east the Kintyre ridge with its many monuments.
Sadly for me I didn’t know about the nearby cairn or I would have had a look for that as well.
A nice way to end the day. Next stop, the island of Gigha.
