The view from the summit barrow to the north-east is really quite exceptional in my opinion.

Towards Windover Hill from a’top the summit barrow.... not sure if it was ‘plundered’ or excavated in antiquity? Same thing?

The apparent ‘barrow’ on the skyline is actually a (dry) pond ... marked as New Pond on the map. The aptly named Green Way can be seen following the fence line to left. Truly, it is wondrous and green.

The larger and better preserved of a pair of round barrows sited where The Green Way heads south-west from the South Downs Way...

The first reasonably (ish) preserved round barrow encountered approaching from the south-east. One of a pair in a rectangular ‘bulge’ in the fence. Splendid views to Windover Hill (far right)...

Approaching from Winton, near The Sanctuary. You can see why the escarpment was chosen as a suitable location to locate the ancestors.... very evocative.

Bostal Hill

Bell barrows are ten-a-penny in this neck of the woods and even the odd long barrow isn’t too much of a surprise so I thought my eyes were deceiving me when I noticed these two disc barrows. They’re right next to the footpath of the SDW near the carpark and disused and quaintly named ‘Bo Peep’ chalk pit. There are also fantastic views over the Downs here and the tiny village of Alciston.
