At work else I'd reply further, but tjj highlighted it perfectly.. Neither ED or TJJ know the full facts but have jumped to the assumption that he didn't do it with malice and that the penalty befits the crime. We are all working on the facts available as (I assume) none of us were in court.

Its simple to me, will he pay enough to have the henge restored? If no, then he isn't paying enough.

Dear God, give me strength. I have not jumped to any 'assumption' at all.

I have stated that a full analysis of all facts in a court of law is the best way.

Excuse me! I think what I said was there was a possibility one of his workers did it out of ignorance. I also said I don't know the full facts ... the penalty does seem lenient compared to the one meted out for chopping a tree down. For the record I'm done having confrontational exchanges on forums but until I'm thrown off reserve the right to express an opinion from time to time.

How exactly will the henge be 'restored'? Presumably all that will be done is make it 'look' like the original, but what if the original had a special meaning to it and was built internally in a special way which we almost certainly don't understand? Money will only get you back an external replica with possibly the beating heart or meaning (to our ancestors) missing! No amount of fine money will bring that back!
