Its simple to me, will he pay enough to have the henge restored? If no, then he isn't paying enough.
How exactly will the henge be 'restored'? Presumably all that will be done is make it 'look' like the original, but what if the original had a special meaning to it and was built internally in a special way which we almost certainly don't understand? Money will only get you back an external replica with possibly the beating heart or meaning (to our ancestors) missing! No amount of fine money will bring that back!

Agree with you in principle Roy but most chambered long barrows (in Wilts and Gloucs) have been restored to some extent - as has Avebury for that matter and Silbury. I could go on. I also know of a disc barrow near Aldbourne, Wilts which was ploughed out by the farmer. He was later required to 'reinstate' it.

Last I heard from EH was they hadn't decided / worked out what work would be done. What is clear though is that 38k is very unlikely to be enough to rebuild it. There is also a filled in Swallet hole which requires excavation. That alone will probably eat up the entire 38k and then some.
