Why there is a row over an ancient clootie well?

Is it an ancient tradition or an eyesore? A row has broken out about a clean-up of a clootie well in the Highlands.

Strangely enough, a similar argument has broken out in Cornwall this week, following a 'clean up' organised by CASPN at Madron Well. Largely due to the large number of clooties, many of which include non-organic materials. ocifant Posted by ocifant

There's usually some right tat at Madron (and Sancreed and St Euny's wells too), plastic string and wristbands, knickers, things with metal chains and fobs. I like the organic things actually (twine made from plant fibre, shells), but some of the stuff left there is awful. I imagine it's full of disposable masks these days! thesweetcheat Posted by thesweetcheat

At St. Patrick's Well and Chair in Tyrone recently a goodly amount of the 'offerings' were just that TSC, masks and face-coverings. Sign of the times I guess. ryaner Posted by ryaner

I went for a look the last time I was looking for forts near Munlochy, it was a bit of shambles tbh. drewbhoy Posted by drewbhoy
