A desirable home, indeed. If but a seasonable one.
Can’t step inside... you’ll need to crawl. However as dry a bed as one could wish for.
These shelters feature a pronounced overhang in the sandstone crags... perfect for sheltering a Mesolithic family during the day.
OK, perhaps I eulogise too much, what with being bathed in perfect light... but I swear I could’ve spent the night here, wrapped in a nice animal skin; or, failing that, a sleeping bag. Extraordinary vibe.
One of the shelters... as at the not-so-distant Oldbury the interior is lined with a bed of white sand, for want of a better description... albeit a much finer, almost powder consistency.
There are at least three rock shelters in this valley to the south/south-west of the promontory fort... didn’t know what I was looking for... so just recorded what I saw.
