When I see stuff like this, it makes me think of the true story behind 'Catch Me If You Can' (a very good Spielberg film).

The government, instead of putting the kid away and letting him rot, allowed him to use his knowledge to help catch other fraudsters.

You never know.... Unless the prosecuters are hellbent on treating him like any garden-variety 'threat' to military security they will likely offer him lieniency for his cooperation. These days, war is as much about electronics as it is about bullets.

I doubt very much that capital punishment is the goal here.

Well that's what they (allegedly) threatened him with - I was listening to an interview with the poor sod last night. The only way he can be extradited is if the crime he's committed is worth at least 1 years jail in both countries. The US government say he's damaged each and every computer he hacked into (yeah yeah yeah) so causing 700K's worth of damage. If that's not the case he can't really be sent away. But he's lost this round - he's taking to the house of lords for another try.

I fear they might treat him that way, changeing times and all that.
They must have pretty shit computers though, so why aren't they first and foremost concerned with that? I remember seeing the guy on the news months back, and he looked like yer average shy nerdy type.
I don't hold out much hope for him really (but like yerself, I doubt he'll be 'executed').
