If the records are that important, rent a truck, take them home and be done with it. Otherwise, stop whining. Hundreds of archives of archaeological studies are going missing or being lost or are up for grabs in the States. Wake up and smell the coffee.

>If the records are that important, rent a truck, take them home and be done with it.<

Pha! Poppycock! That sort mentality ended up with Aurel Stein hauling away thousands of paintings and manuscripts from Tun-huang - the only difference was that he used camels not trucks. Mind you, as with the Elgin Marbles, Stein was probably responsible for indirectly saving them :-)

Now there's and interesting concept, Theft Conservation, which makes the removal of any artefact from anywhere a legitimate act if it's considered by anyone at all to be in the best interest of the artefact.

Rubbish! (and I want a curmudgeon's gong as well ;-)

That might be the American approach to archaeology but its not the way things done over here.
Most of our archives are carefully stored away.

That's no problem then, unless private individuals pay for preservation out of their own pockets, then we should just lose them.

Yep, perfectly logical to me.

And another thing, lets stop whining about all these sites under threat, in America loads are being destoyed all the time, so what's the problem. If individuals can't be bothered simp[ly to buy the site and preserve it, they should shut up.

In fact, all whingers; come on! If you have not single handedly solved all the problems of the world, then keep your trap shut, you have to right to let others know about them.

Lets face it, if the roofs broken, why fix it?
