Have you spoken to any of "these people" ?
You might find that your prejudices are false if you did.
They do what they do for the same reasons as you walk to these places...for fun.
Why do you want to walk in the mud when there are so man pavements to walk on ? It's the same thing.
Let freedom be freedom and don't try to victimise people just because it takes a little something from you. It isn't "your" countryside it's everyones

I suspect you'll find most people here are of the "take nothing but memories, leave nothing but footprints" mindset so they won't be up for unconditional "freedom". Especially if they look at some youtube videos e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97_hpQPa6js and many others.

Victimise! You are joking right - are pedestrians being 'victimised' when they get knocked down by someone driving too fast. Are all the dead animals I see lying at the roadsides being 'victimised' for trying to live in their own habitat.
When I choose to walk in mud rather than pavements it is to get away from cars and to observe wildlife. You will never persuade me that the owners of motor vehicles have the ‘right’ to churn up country-side trackways and footpaths for their own enjoyment. I’m immoveable on this and have nothing more to add to the debate.
