I suspect you'll find most people here are of the "take nothing but memories, leave nothing but footprints" mindset so they won't be up for unconditional "freedom". Especially if they look at some youtube videos e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97_hpQPa6js and many others.

I don't support the damage that these vehicles do nor believe they should have the freedom to go and do what they like.

But that does look like fun, and there lies the problem.

Should there be places where those who wish to partake in this kind of 'sport' can go. Yes I think so.
