I'm planning a trip to coincide with my 40th birthday in April (cries of "Vicster, 40? Never!" ring out across the forum!). The plan was 5 days of Avebury, WKLB, Silbury, Woodhenge etc etc, and an out-of-hours access visit to Stonehenge.

I did something similar for my 40th last year

We stayed in a great family B&B very near Stonehenge

We has early morning special access to Stonehenge- so the nearer the better

We then went to Avebury complex, quick trip to old sarum and popped across to Glastonbury to climb the Tor. Finally we visited Stanton Drew.

Hope you have a great time

We ended it with 2 days at a UK vineyard - you get to 40 and you need your luxuries too!

It must be a 40 year old ex goth thing - getting special access to SH for your 40th!

Oh lordy, there appear to be a few of us about on this forum. What's more worrying is that we may even know each other from our murky past! The horror. I still have my full length black velvet coat ;-0

How was the out of access thingy at SH? Did you get access to the whole site?

Loie and I have had two Special Access Visits to Stonehenge. The first was several years ago, for sunrise, during Driving the Stone Age III. Last year, during DtSA VI (undertaken to attend the Megameet) we had a Sunset Special Access Visit.

It pretty much teemed rain our whole time on the site, and by about twenty minutes into our hour we were the only two visitors left. We had a nice chat with the guard.

Very atmospheric, being alone in Stonehenge in the English Rain and gathering darkness.
