Perhaps because it's an Anglo-Saxon word as opposed to a Celtic one?

Personally I use both and regard myself as a Pagan, not a "pagan"

Odd isn't it? My understanding is that it is a harvest festival from "hlafmaesse" that being Old English for "loaf mass". Middle English version is "Lammasse". Its also got something to do with St Peter's imprisonment and deliverance. Bugger all to do with climbing a crumbling hill in a nightshirt!

'pagan' is latin !

It's a Christian word !
