Anyone here Dowse?

close

Dowsing has always struck me as rather odd, and probably somewhat bogus, however I recently picked up a 2nd hand copy of The Essential TC Lethbridge and found the stuff he was writing to actually be very interesting and somewhat bizarre.

Anyone tried it? Does it work as simply and definitively as Lethbridge wrote? Or is it one of thoses "tried it but got bored cos it done broke" kind of things?

At Avebury two weeks ago I watched a girl dowse by the 'alter' stone. The rods crossed at a certain point as she walked. She got chatting to a young couple walking past and showed them, then gave the rods to the chap, and he tried. They crossed for him too!!! Wow!

We had a pair of rods with us, so after they left I couldn't wait to try that spot. I've always been interested in dowsing but remain unconvinced. It had never worked for me . . but I like the idea. . you know?

Anyway, they left, I tried EXACTLY the same spot. . no result. Zilch. So . . I dunno. But I'd love someone to teach me or show me that it works.

(I assume that you are talking about 'Earth mysteries' and l*y lines type of dowsing rather than finding water).

For inexpensive dowsing rods (this sounds like a viz top tip) nick the bumper paper clips from your office (a pair is best) and undo to the 'L' shape and they'll work fine.

I prefer the forked twig myself but when you need to locate those pesky phone cables under the carpet tiles in the office paper clips'll do nicely.

See entry for 'Hutton Moor Henge'. I am finding distinctive (and different) signatures for henges, cursuses and other features (such as the 'Avenue' leading to 'Stonehenge') - and would like to discuss these with someone who knows about such things. Anyone out there?

I have had limited success with Lethbridge's long pendulum. Oddly it stopped working when I was convinced it was working !

I've dowsed with a hazel twig successfully too.

I've also dowsed with a magnatometer and with other electronic wizaedry measuring resistance. It's all the same, but one's much cheaper :-)

a year or so ago i was visiting my parents in the country and there was a water leak a short distance from the house . A fair amount of water was pouring down the lane, but nobody could really see where it was coming from. A neighbour dowsed the souce of it absolutely accurately. Shorly after the water board turned up and admitted that they regularly use dowsers to fix problems. I only report as i find

Tried it at Stanton Drew with Agent Orange. Had a coat hanger in a bic biro casing. That worked. But haven't tried it with a pendulum thing... Almost anything is possible if you believe it will happen!
;o)

Oh and my married surname is 'Dowsett' so I think in times gone past Steve's family were probably Dowsers!!!

It was reading the Essential TC book that intrigued me, I started with a pendulum with little success at first and then moved onto the rods with quite astonishing results! Needles of Stone by Tom Graves is a great source of info!

Hello,

Being more spiritual than archeological this is an interesting subject to find here, so I thought i'd put me two pennies in!

It is interesting to watch people dowse at Avenury as the majority of people who dowse do end up following certain things - nope not the ley lines, the sewage pipe for the houses!!!, every now & then you get someone who knows where to start on the ley lines and most people follow the same routes there, :):):)

Interestingly enough, as a former sceptic myself, I now dowse with a fairly high success rate.

In my opinion, there is nothing magical or mystical about it, it would appear that we move the rods or pendulum ourselves subconciously, with electronic impulses in the hands. The puzzle is HOW we know the answers to the questions we ask when dowsing.

My opinion is, for what its worth, that the sub-concious mind taps into a universal conciousness when dowsing or "channelling", and we gain knowledge through this process which we put down to "mysticism" just because we do not understand it!

Remember, the word "paranormal" merely means that which cannot currently be described as "normal", and electricity for example, may even have been seen as paranormal before it was understood!

Try dowsing with an open mind, and you may be surprised by the results you get.
