Nevern Castle (Hillfort) — Fieldnotes

In Nevern, off A487.

"A small area of modern Pembrokeshire, comprising the built-up area of Newport town. It lies within the medieval Cantref Cemaes. Cemaes was brought under Anglo-Norman control in c.1100 by the Fitzmartins who established their castle at Nevern on the site of an iron age fort. Cemaes remained in Angle-Norman hands until 1191 when Rhys ap Gruffudd retook it. He strengthened Nevern Castle, but Welsh supremacy was short-lived for Rhys died in 1197 and in the same year William Fitzmartin regained control of Cemaes"

Pentre Ifan (Dolmen / Quoit / Cromlech) — Fieldnotes

It's worth getting an OS map for this area of the Welsh country side, I did because it was part of my research for my archaeology course. It is worth owning one because there are other significant contemporary monuments in the area such as Meini Gwyr and Gors Fawr stone circles a mile or two away with other standing stones, stone cirlces, 6 ring barrows and 11 barrows aswell as Iron age features scattered in this area of the country side. Many features are scattered close to the main road from Crymmych heading south.
I am 19 years old, from Wales, and have just started my second year of Bristol University where I am studying for a BA in Archaeology.
