Trewern Round (Enclosure) — Miscellaneous

In 'Belerion', Craig Weatherhill states that this Iron Age enclosure once contained hut circles, now long vanished.

Caer Bran (Hillfort) — Fieldnotes

Paid a visit here yesterday for the first time in something like 20 years; had the place to myself, and wandered around enjoying the silence & tranquility. The mist was steadily shrouding the hill, completely obscuring the views that would have otherwise been camera fodder but certainly adding something to the ambience. This site is easily accessible (I recommend the OS 'Explorer' map of Land's End) albeit involving quite a climb up a broad, part-concrete track (I pushed the mountain bike up this bit - I know when I'm beaten!), but well worth it. I'll be returning in the summer, but as for yesterday - 'atmospheric' isn't quite an adequate word.

Hillfort Bought

In what would appear to be a victory for good sense, the town & district councils have stepped in at the eleventh hour to buy this historic site for the town of Penzance; hopefully this will ensure the preservation of what remains of this much abused antiquity. On visiting the site today to take the accompanying pictures, I was rather dismayed by the amount of dog-fouling present.

See BBC News web site for more details.

Bosporthennis 'Beehive Hut' (Ancient Village / Settlement / Misc. Earthwork) — Fieldnotes

I'm confident that the remains I photographed in November aren't those of the Bodrifty settlement, as I'm familiar with that site. The pictures I took are all of remains which lie within about 200 yards or so of the Beehive Hut - the Bodrifty village is the better part of a mile to the south-east.

Bosporthennis 'Beehive Hut' (Ancient Village / Settlement / Misc. Earthwork) — Fieldnotes

Whilst looking for the remains of Bosporthennis Quoit (in completely the wrong place, it turned out!), I came across the Beehive Hut, and some scattered remains which I took to be remnants of the courtyard houses which are distributed around the area, although I wouldn't want to put money on this. It was a bright late November day, after several days of heavy rainfall, and I was running out of time, so a few digital pictures were just about all I could manage. Any light that can be cast on the pictures I took is most welcome; hopefully I'll be able to add some more meaningful ones in the near future.
