Machrie Burn (Stone Circle) by thesweetcheat This took a lot longer to find that I expected.

Nice to see this old four poster again. Last time I was here I was using a camera which took 35mm film! In fact it was during the last Century - 1990 methinks. I have a photo taken a few hundred yards away of a cairn made famous in a Scottish Novel. It stood proud and bare on the moorland just off the road, but is now completely consumed by Rowan, Willow, Heather and Bracken. Arran is burying its own past!

Having only seen Greyweather's photos, I'd naively assumed this would be easy to see, but the fact it's on top of a high bank completely hidden by the bracken meant we were wandering up and down the track rather longer than I'd hoped, to the point where it became a bit of a race to get back to the bus stop in time. A fine end to a brilliant day though.

The felling of the conifers across much of Arran and elsewhere is welcome, but "native" woodland may prove every bit as much of a pain for finding sites in!
