The bay. The burial chamber is visible on the headland to the right.
Nearly missed it...had never seen a photo or read owt about it – just had the Landranger and counted meself lucky to find it in the grass!
One of the first ‘stones’ photos I ever took – a good while ago now....
The recumbent and flankers (one fallen in foreground)
The beauty of the (restored, I believe) circle should not be overlooked, despite the ravages of the quarrypeople....
Even the encroaching darkness can’t quite hide the obscenity of the quarry
Although in woods, this one feels like it may have once been a circle – as per Burl’s theories.... There are faint vestiges of a platform extending out from it, in a circular shape. Or perhaps it was just me.
It’s a beautiful little circle & easy to find. Why so obscure???
The circle’s platform is still discernable to the right of the stones, in front of the ubiquitous Dunnideer...
The whole circle. Still reckon it should be ‘Sheldon’....
The circle was a tad difficult to spot – the farmer gave me directions...
...but well worth it. (Thanks to the kindly farmer giving me permission to stomp through his crop!)
I forgot my camera, so all I had was a disposable camera...then it got dark...luckily it had a flash...
A mess for sure, but not so bad as it looks from the road!
The approach from the road – doesn’t look much, but it’s worth a look
The trees make the circle difficult to photograph. Also difficult to spot the fact that the ground is strewn with cowpats from the devil’s own satanic herd....
Yes I know the photos don’t quite fit together!
Has info on quite a few Aberdeenshire sites including some of the more obscure ones – inc the Langstane!
A whopper.... More or less in someone’s garden. Didn’t have time to ask to see it closer. Maybe one day!
Oh look, there’s a standing stone over there...who cares, where’s the next circle?!!!
Remains of a burial chamber forgotten amongst the megalithic madness of Machrie Moor
