One of those places I just want to be at whenever I see a photo!
As you climb the final slope the stones come into sight
...until you see them in the flesh or against the church!
Should’ve known it’d be on here.... I’d love to have done a site like this one! (Maybe I’ll write a book instead....)
From Llyn Brenig IV, spot this platform – the site of a later (medieval?) settlement known as Hen Ddinbych to orientate yourself to find the tiny Llyn Brenig V. This is just visible just above the right side of the platform in this shot.
Not THAT ‘short’ with a title like that...! Has a bit of general info.
With ‘tumulus’ in background. There’s another cairn on a nearby island in the man-made ‘lake’....
A big beauty! Possibly reminiscent of the Bryn-Gwyn stones that are meant to have once been part of a circle...?
Nearly didn’t add this, but thought I’d better, as nobody else has....
The wider view. The path is at the top of the field (far left of photo). It’s over a fence & a bit of undergrowth. From it, you can JUST catch a glimpse of the end of the capstone....
Shame about the railings, but a beautiful dolmen/quoit/cromlech...
Bryn Celli Ddu itself in background, right
With Gorsedd in background – if you can see past the dazzle of the hideous cast replica of the standing stone....
6 mth old Mothling in backpack thingy for scale.... (The ‘pretend’ cast standing stone really does look horrible in the sun doesn’t it?)
If this really was a circle, what a mind-blower it must’ve been!!! Just for sheer size both stones are incredible!
Dog tied to gate to give scale. Trouble is, dog – black + shadow – black = dog – invisible....
Yeah OK – they don’t quite match up...but it gives the idea!
Crikey, I hope it doesn’t look like it’s on a hilltop!!!
Even without the weird colour, the mist...
...made it...
...quite eerie....
Museum grounds opposite – featuring replica hut
From the track by Bryn Celli Ddu Gorsedd....
Weird colours – the effect of the Trefignath aluminium works on the other side of the mountain? Or the scanner doesn’t like the mist?
Another Welsh dolmen/quoit/cromlech, another...
Don’t know anywhere in Britain quite like this place...
Dunno if it’s the aluminium plant that caused the effect, but these colours are weird!
I was so glad I bothered! Glad to hear the fence has gone now!
From this angle, a beautiful dolmen/quoit/cromlech/thing hiding a GUILTY secret...
