Image of Brown Hills Beck Barrow East (Round Barrow(s)) by SJH

I visited on 04.05.26, a lot of walking is involved. I parked at Bowland Knotts and followed the dry stone wall east until reaching Ash Clough Swamp firebreak between Great Hill and White Swan, followed by easy walking on fire roads almost all the way to the site. And what a superb site it is ! Very atmospheric and unspoilt. A small portion of the East Barrow has been eroded by the Beck over the centuries. Other than that they are perfect, shapely and very impressive. The West Barrow is partially (maybe a third) obscured by encroaching pine woods and is possibly not as fertile as the East as the grass is coarser and much drier. My walk was 4+ hours round trip but WELL worth it.
