Killabuonia

This site (listed as SMR KE088-035---- on National Monuments Service) is known locally as the ‘Giant’s Grave’. It is located in a sloping field about 135m SE of the early ecclesiastical site of Killabuonia, overlooking St Finan’s Bay to the southwest.

Unfortunately, it is not easy to identify a structure, which is why I cannot say what type of tomb it might be, or even whether it is a tomb at all. In my opinion, the D-shaped semi-arch argues against the wedge tombs, which are typical of the Iveragh Peninsula.

Drive north-east along Rathkieran Road towards Keel. About 1.6 km after Keel, the tomb is located in a field on the left-hand side, just before the road makes a sharp right-hand bend, climbs uphill and winds around the hill. There is a gate and a path leads towards the tomb.
