Driemarkenpunt

If you plan to visit Hunebeds D7 Schipborg and D8 – Anloo-N, do yourself a favour and include during your scenic stroll through the beautiful landscape of the Drentsche Aa National Park / De Strubben Kniphorstbosch the cairns Galgenberg (Strubben-Kniphorstbos) and Driemarkenpunt during your walk (about 3.6 km).

Compared to Les Hamilton’s photos from 2014, two things stand out. Firstly, the burial mound is once again surrounded by trees, and secondly, a small standing stone has been placed in the centre of the mound. Unfortunately, I was unable to find any further information on this.

On a junction of three paths, about 500 metres north of the Galgenberg, lies a somewhat shallower, though expansive grassy burial mound, the Driemarkenpunt.

Until recently surrounded by woodland, felling has left it rather brutally exposed, and it seems likely to be a year or two before new vegetation softens the scene.
