Although not very upstanding, there’s a good circular mound of partially turfed, consolidated stone beneath the marker cairn. I can’t help but think that this was always quite a low monument compared to the more prominent mounds on Cadair Berwyn and Cadair Bronwen.

Approaching the cairn from the direction of Cadair Berwyn. It doesn’t have a huge profile above the ground surface, other than the modern marker pile on top of it. The backdrop stretches from Pumlumon to Y Moelwynion, taking in Cadair Idris, Aranau, Y Rhinogydd and Arenig in between.

A good representation of the cairn, I think. The onward route beyond Craig Berwyn to Cadair Berwyn is obvious.... in clear weather.

Highlighting the extensive embedded footprint...... Craig Berwyn glowers beyond, with Cadair Berwyn subsumed within cloud to its left. Both summits feature a monument.

Moel Sych cradles a fine upland lake – Llyn Lluncaws – beneath its south eastern shoulder, notable not least for it’s idiosyncratic surface weed giving it a strange otherworldly lustre.

The main ridge of Y Berwyn sears itself upon the retina from Moel Sych... the castellated top of Craig Berwyn to the right, Cadair Berwyn, centre. Cadair Bronwen is beyond to the left.

Interesting features emerge from the gloom...

Impressive footprint.... The continuation of the main ridge of Y Berwyn Cadair Berwyn is somewhere within the vapour. Apparently.

Hill fog closes in around the summit of Moel Sych and it’s Bronze Age cairn, a modern marker cairn surmounting the substantial ancient footprint.

Moel Sych towers above the primeval waters of Llyn Lluncaws.... 8/10/94 ... the effect resulting from a sunburst upon the covering of reeds is captivating, to say the least. One wonders if such natural theatrics were utilised by Bronze Age ‘priests’ to get the message across. I reckon so, myself.

Starting at the waterfall just head north and uphill, ever up . with fence to the right and the hills falling away to the left Moel Sych hilltop cairn comes suddenly into view as you crest the mountain top. Some curb stones are big and obvious on the west side and the whole cairn is quite large. But this was just the first one and it looks like the weather is closing in .
