"In the late summer of 1995 fieldwork carried out as part of the Tyne-Solway Ancient and Historic Landscapes Research Programme led to the discovery of important Mesolithic and Bronze Age sites at approximately 380m AOD (NGR NY 934512) on Birkside Fell, in the North Pennines. Erosion of the thin peaty soils which mantle the fell have exposed an extensive scatter of stone tools and the partially denuded remains of a cairn." The Prehistoric Society Posted by BrigantesNation
