Pinkwell

Long Barrow

Pinkwell (Long Barrow) by thesweetcheat The long barrow from the west. Sadly the farmer has dumped a load of earth/manure and cut-down tree branches on top of the mound and set fire to them.

This looks really substantial. I cannot see it on the Bing or Google aerial maps views. Howburn Digger Posted by Howburn Digger

It's really substantial in terms of area, but quite low now. Possibly the footprint is larger than originally as the material has been spread by ploughing, but it would have been big. thesweetcheat Posted by thesweetcheat

Got to admit I thought the earth/manure was the cairn! Looks a bit like stones. I'm off to Specsavers! thelonious Posted by thelonious

Sadly an easy mistake to make - I thought the same on entering the field. Really it's just a gentle swell of grass now. thesweetcheat Posted by thesweetcheat
