Thanks for the links Ryaner. This is really fascinating. You do occasionally find small basins in stones in the UK, but I think they're mostly all natural occurrences. There's a small curb stone at the back of Wayland's Smithy which has a small bowl in it and I wondered if it was picked specifically as a receptacle or if it had simply eroded that way since being placed there.

The majority, however, would be single-bowled/basined, with doubles, triples etc. found as well.
