Phillack Towans

Standing Stone / Menhir

Blundered around trying to find. Eventually asked dog walking local who said he hadn’t ever seen it. Walked away and he halooed me back. It was just there. I walk past it everyday he said. This picture is looking towards the east and the rising sun. Feels like the stone is facing it and has seen the dawn countless times.

Coldrum

Long Barrow

Visited here for the first time the other day on a nice two day trip to some sites in east Kent.
Nice vibe here, but a shame about the non-biodegradable “trinkets” on the tree.
I am not against people leaving things and totally understand their reasons behind doing so,but, please, please, please, respect nature and make them bio degradable

Duddo Five Stones

Visited March 2025, easy to find unless you decide to trust Google maps hence we wandered off the wrong way then circled back. Some deer running around and a very pleasant walk anyway. The track down the slope to the lane where id parked is easy going.

Cuddesdon Stones

Standing Stones

Visited on a late spring afternoon,
April 2nd, 2026,
as the day leaned gently toward evening
and the fields lay quiet beneath softening light.

A humble two-foot rule
was placed beside the fallen stone,
a small human measure
against a relic of older days.

The stone lies prostrate now,
carried from its first standing place,
set down by unseen hands
far from where it once kept watch.
Six feet in length it rests,
1.3 feet across its weathered face,
and 0.8 feet in depth—
a displaced sentinel,
still holding the memory
of the ground where it once stood.

The barrow is accessible through the lane which leads to the water plant situated beside it. There is a sign on the gate of the lane saying no unauthorised entry past this point, but don’t be fooled that only refers to the fenced off fields of the surrounding farm, not the lane itself.
