I remember being out on croftland a few years back, looking for a couple of map noted cup marked stones (which I will post one day, if I can find the right dratted disk!), not a building to be seen, but the crofter appeared walking her dogs. I felt sheepish and 'naughty' but once she'd found out what a bloke, a woman and a toddler in a sling were doing looking lost on her land she stopped and chatted and told us all she could about the stone, said she occasionally found people looking for it, and told us where to find the other! :-). My feeling is always I'm far more likely to annoy people by parking in gateways blocking access, or upsetting livestock than I am simply to be found wandering about their land with care...
