On a tangent slightly, horseback would definitely be the way to go looking for those elusive cup and ring marks. Some good ones up here were originally located that way by shepherds. Puts you high enough up to pick out the markings in low sunlight. In fact, if I unexpectedly become independently wealthy, how do you fancy a full time job being paid to ride over Northumberland heather at sunrise and sunset looking at each and every visible bit of stone?
