some 17 years ago I moved to rural (midlands) Ireland. At that time it was generally believed that Co.Longford was devoid of any archaeology of note.
Days and weeks of field walking and looking brought dozens of previously overlooked neolithic sites to light.
I wrote a small book for the protection of these stones/sites some of which might interest you.
Steve,
You might find this of interest, something we published today http://heritageaction.wordpress.com/2013/04/16/news-2500-giant-wind-tubines-to-be-erected-in-the-midlands/
If you'd like to add a Comment to it please do. Or better still contact us about a possible article(s)....
I'm generally in favour of wind turbines but this does look like a travesty - would like to imagine the Irish people are already protesting strongly against it. Its the supplying Britain bit which makes it such a bitter pill to swallow. I've shared your HA link on FB in the hope that some of my Irish friends/contacts will pick up on it and share with others.

I guess there's a balance to be drawn, some wind farms yes but not at a ludicrous social and landscape cost. Shame we're acknowledging that at home but not in Ireland. I wonder how Dave would rationalise that? Maybe he'd say the Irish should be grateful for having been allowed to be part of Britain's Big Society....
