Does anyone know of any Modern Antiquarian style publications about stone circles and other such sites in Eire? There are loads of them, apparently, and it'd be nice to have a gazeteer type thing explaining what they're all about, where to find them and so on. If anyone knows of a comprehensive guide, please let me know and I'd be hugely grateful. If there isn't such a thing, perhaps Mr Cope could consider it as a future project...

I think FourWinds has such a plan up his sleeve.... At the mo, your best bet is his wonderful website http://www.megalithomania.com

Not Modern Antiquarian in type but a slightly less terse equivalent to the Batsford guides (despite its title) is "Guide To National and Historic Monuments of Ireland" by Peter Harbison ISBN 0-7171-1956-4. Try to see if your local library can get one through another library.

There are the Jack Roberts booklets (review at http://www.megalithomania.com/show/review/27) as well as the Kenneth McNally tome, Standing Stones and Monuments of Early Ireland:

both of which I used effectively during my Cork trip.
