I've been volunteered for a gas-guzzling daytrip to Brizzol; nearest megalithic interest appears to be Stanton Drew. I may be able to persuade my potentially-cynical chauffeur to stop off for 10 minutes or so.

So, how easy is it to get to wearing presentable work gear?

Are there any other unsung "easy" sites nearby?

It's extremely easy to get to-just drive into the village of Stanton Drew, follow the signs & there's even a little car park. Walk through a gate and you're in it.

Take wellingtons this time of year though, especially if there's sheep about. ;-)

Don't forget the cove in the pub car park-you can even buy your chauffeur an orange juice :-)

Hello Pebs , not unsung but a Nempnet Thrubwell visit and car sticker for the chauffeur might go down well .

Yes, you can wear your "best" clothes round Stanton Drew, with the addition of boots, its fairly easy to find, turn down the little lane near the church and park in small car park. No there are'nt any other sites nearby - stones have been moved long time ago round North Somerset, except of course the Cove at the pub......
The Mendips; old ancestral landscape round here, so how about Cheddar Caves, terribly themed but the caves and the river running through are quite something...

It's a short stagger from the Druids Arms, no clothes necessary...at least that's what I thought until the police Persuasion Unit arrived.

BOOM! *chaaaa!

PS. Watch out for rook poo too.

If you fancy a bt of a magical mystery tour around some great countryside then you might want to go to Stoney Littleton, which is a great little barrow but can be difficult to find for the inexperienced Longbarrow Hunter!!
Unfortunately I need to reduce my Body Mass Index before I wll fit inside :o(

Chris

Dead easy to get to:
Park, honesty box, open gate - ta da! :o)

Stanton Drew is great - you should go.
There is also a ruined Iron Age hillfort in Leigh Woods (Avon Gorge) if you like that sort of thing (which I do).

I could see Stanton Drew from the plane before I came into land - but maybe the planes come in at various angles.
If you want to see the cist cover that was found at Pool Farm (on the Mendips), with the foot prints, it's in the city museum and art gallery, top of park street, near the university and the hospital. Covered in red paint but still nice. And you might like the geology collections in there too (sparkly things and fossils).

I didn't get to Stanton Drew, or any other site :-(

I was also sitting on the wrong side of the plane to see ST as we landed, which is a shame as it was 8am and the sun was at the perfect angle to pick up lovely landy lumps.

So, I was sitting there getting all time-teamy looking at old ploughed-out field boundaries etc and mistaking trees for rocks when I saw what absolutely looked like a circular henge-looking thing, or perhaps a flattened cairn. It was at one end of a field somewhere in NW Bristol (I think). Unfortunately I couldn't get a true judgement of scale or size.

anyone any ideas what / where it may have been?
