The information board for the Downs in Bristol raised an interesting topic. Info on the 'Seven Sisters' said "A circle of pine trees, five of which are original, having been planted about 1871. The two added in 1991 replaced losses from the 1990 storms. They stand on a slight mound situated on a high point on Durdham Downs, a location thought to have been a Bronze Age round barrow dating from some 3-4,000 years ago"

Does anyone know anymore? I can't remember the exact location of the seven sisters, but it seemed to be approx ST571753. Nothing shown on OS map. Nothing mentioned on the 'magic' web site.

No, but look on the old-maps.co.uk. site, find Durdham Down under Clifton or Redland.
Nothing there but the Via Julia runs near it on its way to Ebonae? (sea mills) port. Coincidence, but looking at North Stokes yesterday noted that the 19th c map had the Via Julia on it, its the road that runs through Bitton and Keynsham, with some stones marked in the" mickle mead " field, next to the river. All disappeared now..

This is a shameless ploy to get the topic back up the top of the board.

Anyone else have any knowledge or thoughts? Otherwise I'll probably add it on the strength of what I have so far.

I noticed that people like Ike, Hamish, vulcan, festyboy and Rhiannon have an interest / knowledge / posts in the area. Any knowledge?

Hi Pure Joy. Sorry to be so long reacting to your question about the even Sisters.I have posted some pics at http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/site/5533 See what you think.

Between 1 and 2km of the estimated grid reference ArchSearch shows at ST5876 a bowl barrow of uncertain age . ADS Record ID - EHNMR-633855 was excavated in 1890 . ARCHI shows ?this much closer , at only 0.2km NW , and Bronze Age . On Pastscape ST57NE 35 is called either a barrow or a tree-clump circle .
