Direction's

close

Hey Chance, see you found Jug's Grave, well done, you did better than me.
I went searching for it myself in the summer after doing a 'tour' of the area. However, I didn't find it despite having my GPS which I think didn't work because the tree were all in leaf. Did you use a GPS?
I would mind giving it another go sometime, do you have any easy to follow directions to help me find it?

Cheers :o)

Chris

I've often wondered were Jug's Grave was as well, being very near to Bath, but those woods always looked spooky. Its nice to see Chance's photos of this elusive (but badly damaged) barrow.

I can try and direct you if you like, we went looking for it last year and found what Chance found. I'll be honest, I didn't post the pictures because I really wasn't sure that we had found it as it reminded me more of a ruined house than a barrow...

I've just checked on the map and with the memory bank (the gf) and we parked somewhere about ST 795 628 by a gateish and then shinyed over a gate. Walked along a track from the gate heading north running parallel to the road which goes up to A road which then joins the A4. Stay within 20 yards or so of the road whilst you walk if poss. Then we stumbled across the remains.

As a side note, its a very posh area and our battered car with england flags (it was during last years world cup and I have no shame) got some very dirty looks and absolutely no courtesy from the chelsea tractors we met en route. I'll have a quick dig about and see if I can find the picture with the gf in it which shows the height of the walls.

I had written some field notes up for this site, but having seen your posts I thought it might spoil your fun.

Having read Guy Underwood's report of 1946 in WAM 51, it was probably just as well.

Check out Guy's field sketch's for Jugg's Grave and the Conkwell Stone Circle in no man's land I've posted.

Let us know you get on. Will post up what I found out after your visit.....
