Thanks for that info Baz.

According to Andrew Fleming (prof. of Archaeology at the University of Wales) there was permanent habitation of St Kilda for some 4000 years until the evacuation in 1930. Impressive stone cleits, or storage huts, are found all over the island so are we sure there are no circles (or remains of?).

Recently there has been a noticeable increase in interest in St Kilda, no doubt heightened by Prof Andrew Fleming doing the rounds talking about his new book about the Island.

Without doubt, Andrew Fleming is the world expert on St Kilda and it will be interesting to see what new revelations he reveals in the future. Who knows, maybe even stone circles!

BBC Scotland aired a news item this week about the last remaining islander by birth, returning by helicopter to visit the scenes of his childhood. He was five when he left the island. Seemingly it was the death of his mother in childbirth that prompted the rest of the tiny community, of about thirty souls, to seek permanent relocation to the mainland.
