The "Bryden" whom you mention is Bill Bryden, director of the film Ill Fares The Wind (1982), about the evacuation of the island in 1930.

According to Andrew Fleming (prof. of Archaeology at the University of Wales) there was permanent habitation of St Kilda for some 4000 years until the evacuation in 1930. Impressive stone cleits, or storage huts, are found all over the island so are we sure there are no circles (or remains of?).
