well after this years performance it'll probably be the last time it's opened to visitors overnight. i purposely got there after the celebrations and was told it had been horrendous all night and not too many folk had turned up.
in regarding the damage done to the stone itself i would say it isn't superficial, i hope i'm wrong. as you go in you walk to your left hand side up towards the alter stone or equator stones,it's on one of the tall ones nearby.

We turned up at 4.00am, half an hour before sunrise and basically had insults shouted at us for having a goods night sleep and not being there all night.

I just said I didn't recognise them from winter solstice when it was cold & wet & not quite so much fun to be out all night.

Think we'll go somewhere else next year for summer solstice

hmmm yeah you might be right there. It's a NT site, I think?

When I was there a few years ago (3?) there were folk there who'd been at an all-nighter in Penrith and drove to the stones completely pissed.
