Greetings Adrenochrome,
>Hardly a suprise if you had seen some of the idiots there for sunrise.

Too many arseholes jumping on the so-called trendy "alternative" bandwagon, without understanding the true history of sites such as Castlerigg. They're too interested in getting noticed for being "different", with an "Ooooh, look at me everyone, aren't I mystic" attitude. I can't imagine them reading any books on prehistoric archaeology, or even trying to understand the findings. For most of them it's about using the site for a made-up belief that suits their current persona. Hence, they have no respect for the sites, carving/scratching names and symbols, leaving rubbish, and generally not giving a shit about spoiling the enjoyment of others.
Cynically yours,
TE.

well after this years performance it'll probably be the last time it's opened to visitors overnight. i purposely got there after the celebrations and was told it had been horrendous all night and not too many folk had turned up.
in regarding the damage done to the stone itself i would say it isn't superficial, i hope i'm wrong. as you go in you walk to your left hand side up towards the alter stone or equator stones,it's on one of the tall ones nearby.
