Truro is said to derive from the three rivers that meet there. Although only two can now be seen, the third now covered over and running in from the east.

...this still leaves us with the discussion as to why are there three stones on the coat of arms....was the heraldry expert as confused as we are?

Mr H

Well if the 'tre/three' connection is valid, it seems very possible that there were once 3 stones. If not, mebbe it was coz it'd look crap with only one stone, so the artist added a couple.... ;^)

It could be that simple. The bloke who designed the coat of arms just thought that the name meant 'three standing stones'.

Or, of course, there could have been three at one time. Go on - dig a few test pits and see if you can locate the sockets?

1 from 3 leaves 2 which could equal a gatepost somewhere!
