Do you believe that the romans would cut through a barrow, they were a superstitious lot, would have rather gone round then through... satellite imaging is extraordinary for draining the life out of the countryside, a good old b/w grainy photo by Crawford catches the spirit.. though those barrows by the sanctuary are separated on either side of the road - you never know.

west of the R*m*n rd they cut through several pond/round barrows near Oldbury.
Its hard to draw a straight line across this part of Wiltshire without hitting a mound of some sort.

they didn't seem to have Cut through this barrow but rather heaped up one side to raise the road level.
