I found a ref to Silbaby,

Topographical sketches of North Wiltshire by John Britton, 1826.

p306
This shows Silbury hill was ancienter than the Roman road. The makers of the same Roman road cut through another barrow, of smaller dimensions, east of Silbury hill.

"The makers of the same Roman road cut through another barrow, of smaller dimensions, east of Silbury hill."

Do you believe that the romans would cut through a barrow, they were a superstitious lot, would have rather gone round then through... satellite imaging is extraordinary for draining the life out of the countryside, a good old b/w grainy photo by Crawford catches the spirit.. though those barrows by the sanctuary are separated on either side of the road - you never know.
