Did a little digging on the RCAHMS website and the only stone circle listed is Templemeads at NO3536 , but it does say that it was removed during railroad excavations . It is an odd coincidence that the entry refers one to the Templemead cists at NO357361 and the circle on TMA as Auchterhouse is in such close proximity to the BalKello cists . So my guess is that when the Templemeads stone circle was removed it was brought here and re-erected in a similar setting to the original .

bristol to auchterhouse is a fair skelp (templemeads?),and even templelands to auchterhouse is 2 miles, all uphill , the balbeuchly incline was a big problem for the railway engineers of the time never mind dragging stanes up it . seriously though the site , if genuine is not to be mistaken for anything discovered previously ,there was a stone circle about a mile to the N.W. also with a cist nearby but both are lost. i have a feeling it may well be the work of a "stoney" landscaper but hope not.
