my typing sucks sometimes! Thanks for pointing that out- I've noticed a few of my own mistakes trying to update my database after a HD crash.
Nope- the only cup and ring pics I took in the NMS were those two- as far as I remember there was only one other cup and ring stone displayed with those two. I added them to TMA to add more to the complete picture around Wester Yardhouses (many more sites down there awaiting a visit) and the Lamancha stone as not much in the way of rock art in the Borders (well- the area around Tweeddale).
Have you had a look at my postings on Blackford Hill carving- I'd be interested to hear your views on age/date etc?
Cheers,
Martin

However old the deer (and person) are I think they're great. If you're pecking away laboriously at a hard rock it must be difficult to get the sprightliness that the deer shows, don't you think?

Absolute unique deer carvings because of the combination with human images. The style is very different from e.g. the Goatscrag deer carvings in Northumberland which are more of the one-line type:

The Ballochmyle deer carvings come a bit closed; they obviously have a body. But there are no signs of humans around:

The dating of these splendid carvings will be a difficult task so it good to enjoy them for what they are: a hunting scene from the deep past.... time to turn off the telly!
