Absolute unique deer carvings because of the combination with human images. The style is very different from e.g. the Goatscrag deer carvings in Northumberland which are more of the one-line type:

The Ballochmyle deer carvings come a bit closed; they obviously have a body. But there are no signs of humans around:

The dating of these splendid carvings will be a difficult task so it good to enjoy them for what they are: a hunting scene from the deep past.... time to turn off the telly!

Yeh- I'd not really come across such carvings before- I think I said in the fieldnotes from my first visit that I was expecting a more Pictish style, but the whole atmosphere of the site is, just, well...ancient!
*Lurv* your Tormain Hill pics- those are great. Very difficult to photograph, but you've done em justice (unlike my attempts!). Another very atmospheric site..

I'm no expert on animal/hunter/human carvings- are there other exmaples of hunting scenes in the UK/Ireland?
