The Road to Oxford

We're here in England now (staying with friends in Melksham at the moment) and having a marvelous time. Spent a few glorious days at Avebury earlier in the week -- checked out the vistas from the Sanctuary, took a brief nap at West Kennet, and walked the Avenue from the main circle (side-tracking briefly to visit Silbury Hill and the magnificent crop circle that's there). The weather's been perfect and we've taken lots of great photographs and soaked up some good vibrations from all the places.

Our Oxfordshire visits will probably be to the Uffington Horse and Wayland's. We'd also like to hit some spots in Oxford-town too (such as the Bodlean and Ashmolean). We were going to stay at the Eurobar (http://www.oxfordcity.co.uk/accom/eurobar), but they haven't got a room for both nights we'll be there (Friday the 22nd and Saturday the 23rd). Can anyone recommend some places we might try calling to ask about accommodations?

Thanks,
Clint

Let us know you're OK! and see you on Saturday! Have you got our phone number?

Oh, and DON'T forget the Pitt-Rivers museum, at the back of the brilliant University Museum on Parks Road. The most wonderful building in Oxford for sure and the MOST BONKERS collection of ethnographic and weirdy stuff on the planet. I kid you not - and I've seen a few museums in my time!

Pitt Rivers - stick it in yer diary now. http://www.prm.ox.ac.uk/

Try to give yourself half a day at the Ashmolean, Clint; among its many treasures it houses one of the finest collections of Chinese ceramics in the country. The jewel in the Ashmolean* crown has to be, literally, the (King) Alfred Jewel which is a stunning example of Anglo-Saxon craftsmanship - though sadly when I was there last summer only a replica was on display (Jane may be able to tell you if you can now see the original). Excellent Museum shop, and an oyster-bar across the road if you've work up an appetite in the galleries :-)
